Using the analogy of house construction, we like to think of the domain name as the foundation. Once you've cleared the lot and poured the cement (setting up the domain registration and activating the web server), you're ready to build the house. Just like all houses have a framework, walls, and a roof, all web documents have a similar basic structure, most often written in a programming language called HTML. But just like houses can range from a simple one-room hut to an 80-room mansion, a web site can reflect the same variety, depending on the resources and creativity devoted to it.
