Pacific Heights: [ Melanie Griffith, Matthew Modine, Michael Keaton ] Continuing the late '80s psycho paranoia made famous by "Fatal Attraction," this flick is a solid rental for folks who like their Keaton dark. 1990.
Phenomenon: [ John Travolta, Kyra Sedgwick, Robert Duvall ] A shock of light makes Travolta's brain bigger than a breadbox, and his mind starts to phrase everything in the form of a question. Touching, entertaining winner with a kick-ax soundtrack. 1996.
Pale Rider: [ Clint Eastwood, Michael Moriarty ] A pseudo sequel to "High Plains Drifter," Eastwood directs himself effectively as the mysterious vigilante. 1985.
The Poseidon Adventure: [ Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters ] First in a long line of celebrity filled disaster epics. Shelley Winters is as irritating as can be. 1972.
Powder: [ Mary Steenburgen, Sean Patrick Flanery, Lance Henriksen ] Slow-mover about a pale-skinned teen with massive mental powers who shakes up a small midwestern community. Jeff Goldbloom cameos as a sensitive science teacher. 1995.
Postcards from the Edge: [ Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine ] Star Wars' Carrie Fisher wrote a novel which leapt to the big screen as this witty flick. Knowing it's about Fisher makes it hard to buy Streep as the lead, but it's insightful and quick nonetheless. 1990. Mary Steenburgen, Sean Patrick Flanery, Lance Henriksen
