Under the KnifeNatural Born Killers
[ Woody Harrelson, Juliette Lewis ] A two-hour tequila nightmare of over-the top violence and scenery chewing, complete with "Batman" camera angles. Viewers spout one perpetual phrase: "What da hel' was zat?" Keep your thumb on the remote's rewind button. 1994.

In For Observation The Natural

Under the Knife The Net
[ Sandra Bullock, Dennis Miller ] Computer geek finds a floppy with the power to induce world wide wreakage. The plot is hard to chew at times, but Bullock is all juicy fruit. 1995.

Medical Miracle Network
[ William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Peter Finch ] This classic 70s satire gobbled up a ton of acting awards, and is eerily prophetic of today's info-taining news shows. Its "I'm Mad As Hell and I'm Not Gonna Take It Anymore" became a household phrase. Directed by Sidney Lumet. 1976.

In For Observation Never Say Never Again
[ Sean Connery, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Kim Basinger ] The return of the ultimate Bond. Great 007 effort is slapped down by bad toupee on Sean, but bucked up by sexy Bond girls. 1983.

Under the Knife The Neverending Story
[ Noah Hathaway, Barret Oliver, Moses Gunn ] Wolfgang Peterson directs this fantasy thing for kids. Weird animals and otherworldly creatures abound, but soggy plot hurts the pacing. 1984.

In For Observation New Jack City
[ Wesley Snipes, Ice T, Allen Payne, Mario Van Peebles ] Snipes strikes gold as the slimey drug kingpin chased by undercover narcs. Van Peebles directs. 1991.

Dead on Arrival Newsies
[ Bill Pullman, Robert Duvall ] "Let's make a musical about a historical event that nobody cares about!" Whoever thunk this one up should be working in telemarketing, selling chainlink fences. Probably are. 1992.

In For Observation New York Stories
[ Nick Nolte, Rosanna Arquette, Julie Kavner, Woody Allen ] Three modern master directors (Allen, Copolla, Scorsese) give us three neat-o vignettes about life in the Big Apple. Nolte is outstanding as a wild-eyed painter. 1989.

Medical MiracleNight of the Living Dead
[ Judith O'Dea, Duane Jones ] The costume ball that started it all. A 4-digit budget, a truckload of innards, and a helluva mess o' fun. 1968.

Under the KnifeNight of the Living Dead
[ Tony Todd, Tom Towles, Patricia Tallman ] Romero trots out the mothership, and lets gore god Tom Savini remake it in color. Do we smell Ted Turner lurking somewhere? 1990.

Medical MiracleThe Night of the Hunter
[ Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, Lillian Gish ] Director Charles Laughton made this one film, and then quit directing. Nothing like going out on top. Mitchum is chilling and black-and-white cinematography is tremendous. 1955.

In For ObservationThe Nightmare Before Christmas
[ Animated ] Tim Burton wrote and produced this incredible visual feast of stop-action animation. Story of a haunted holiday may upset the kiddy set, but great for everyone else. 1993.

In For ObservationA Nightmare on Elm Street
[ Heather Lagenkamp, Johnny Depp, Robert Englund, John Saxon ] The best in a long line of sorry substitutes. Freddy without the Vegas comedian attitude is the grooviest slice-and-dicer of them all. 1984.

Under the KnifeNightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
[ Mark Patton, Robert Englund, Kim Myers ] Watch Freddy start to evolve into the smarmy stand-up he becomes known for. Patton is unintentionally hilarious as the fey protagonist. 1985.

In For ObservationNightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

Under the knifeNightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
[ Robert Englund, Lisa Wilcox, Rodney Eastman ] Director Renny Harlin staked his claim on a big-time career with this stylish Nightmare sequel. Lame attempts at comedy make Freddy seem like a freebasing Rip Taylor. 1988.

Critical ConditionNightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
[ Robert Englund, Lisa Wilcox, Kelly Jo Minter ] Freddy as a fetus. The series is getting tired, but good gore effects help some. 1989.

Under the KnifeNightmares
[ Emilio Estevez, Lance Henriksen, Cristina Raines ] Collection of horror tales in the Creepshow and Twilight Zone mold. The rat segment is hideous...in a good way. 1983.

In For ObservationNight Shift
[ Michael Keaton, Henry Winkler, Shelly Long ] Ron Howard's mortuary comedy marked the big screen debut of Keaton and reimaged The Fonz as a nebbish. Check Kevin Costner in a bit part. 1982.

Under the KnifeThe Night We Never Met
[ Matthew Broderick, Annabella Sciorra, Kevin Anderson ] Interesting premise about a shared NY apartment never picks up steam. Predictable script, but performances are largely good. Jeanne Tripplehorn steals scenes as a self-absorbed stage slut. 1993.

Under the KnifeNo Small Affair

In For ObservationNo Way Out
[ Kevin Costner, Gene Hackan, Sean Young ] Don't watch if you're apt to doze; you may miss an amazing ending. Costner was just budding as a star, and he's at peak form. 1987.

Medical MiracleNorth by Northwest
[ Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason ] Arguably Hitchcock's finest film. Impeccable storyline takes Grant across the U.S. as a suspected spy. A must-see example of filmic structure and visual virtuosity. Memorable climax at Mount Rushmore. 1959.

In For ObservationNorth Dallas Forty

Medical MiracleNotorious

Under the KnifeThe Nutty Professor
[ Jerry Lewis, Stella Stevens ] Watch Jerry turn from mild-mannered teacher to Dean Martin and back again. The Clown Prince of France's best film. 1963.

In For ObservationThe Nutty Professor
[ Eddie Murphy, Jada Pinkett ] Eddie returns in a big way with a hilarious remake of the Jerry Lewis flick. Dinner table scenes show Mr. Murphy at his best, and Rick Baker's makeup work is in-friggin-credible. 1996.
