Under the KnifeJames and the Giant Peach
[ Paul Terry, Joanna Lumley, Miriam Margolyes ] A touch of life action wraps around this model-mation extravaganza by A Nightmare before Christmas' Henry Selick. Based on the children's book by Roald Dahl. A couple of REALLY ugly women tarnish the watchability of this nifty kids' flick. 1996.
Medical MiracleJaws
[ Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw ] Spielberg closes the beach and opens the cash register. First in a long line of box-office heavyweights. 1975.

Under the KnifeJeremiah Johnson
[ Robert Redford, Will Geer ] Redford does Grizzly Adams. Slow pace threatens to induce frost bite, but scenery and cinematography are top-notch. 1972.

Under the KnifeJewel of the Nile
[ Michael Douglass, Kathleen Turner, Danny DeVito ] Sequel to "Romancing the Stone." Appraised at less than face value. 1985.

In For ObservationJFK
[ Kevin Costner, Sissy Spacek, Kevin Bacon ] A hint: this movie is the quickest link for the game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon." 1977.

In For ObservationJoe Versus the Volcano
[ Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Lloyd Bridges ] Weak ending ruins fine film and dashes Abe Vigoda's comeback hopes. Hanks' dance on the floating trunk is classic. 1990.

In For ObservationJunior
[ Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emma Thompson, Danny DeVito ] Arnold "stretches" as an actor to portray this pregnant man. Thompson is typically terrific, and the light comedy is an overall success. 1994.

Medical MiracleJurassic Park
[ Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum ] King Spielberg does it again, offering up one of the most amazing pieces of technical whiz-bang this side of NASA, with brain-blowin' FX and kick-arse pacing. No wonder he's got all the money. 1993.

Under the KnifeJust Cause
[ Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburn, Blair Underwood ] Frustrating waste of talent drifts aimlessly to a less-than-diggity conclusion. The stars have a random handful of fine moments. 1995.

Critical ConditionJust One of the Guys
[ Joyce Hyser, Clayton Rohner, Billy Jacoby ] Predictable gender switch "comedy" about a girl who dresses up like a guy, and nobody can tell. Excuse me, sir, where did you get those perky breasts? 1985.
