Under the KnifeEarthquake
[ Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, Lorne Greene ] I've never been in an earthquake, but if I were, I'd want to hear John Williams' music in the background. 1974.

Under the KnifeEasy Rider
[ Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson, Karen Black ] The original low-budget indie, this flick looks goofy and dated by today's standards. (I watched it straight.) Nicholson rocks the roadhouse as a drop-out lawyer, but things get dry up when he's not onscreen. 1969.

Under the KnifeEat My Dust
[ Ron Howard, Corbin Bernsen ] Without this flick, we might never have gotten "Splash" and "Apollo 13." Howard traded his acting services here to producer Roger Corman for the chance to direct "Grand Theft Auto." 1976.

Medical MiracleEd Wood
[ Johnny Depp, Martin Landau, Sarah Jessica Parker ] Fab-o cast in an amazing effort by director Tim Burton. Captures the echoing essence of cross-dressin' god-awful-movie makin' Ubergenius Ed Wood. 1994.

Under the KnifeEddie and the Cruisers
[ Michael Pare, Tom Berenger ] I know people who think this movie is the ultimate. I'm not saying I like these people, but I know them. 1983.

In For ObservationEdward Scissorhands
[ Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Diane Wiest ] Tim Burton pours visual gravy on an original script. Cameo by horror heavyweight Vincent Price. 1990.

In For ObservationEight Men Out
[ John Cusack, D.B. Sweeney, Perry Lang ] John Sayles' makes a good movie about pro baseball's "Black Sox" scandal. An added plus: the stars don't throw like girls. 1988.

In For Observation84 Charing Cross Road
[ Anne Bancroft, Anthony Hopkins ] I'd have loved to been in on the meeting where they pitched this idea. "Okay, it's two people writing letters back and forth. Wouldn't that make a good movie?" Surprisingly, it did. 1986.

In For ObservationThe Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain
[ Hugh Grant, Tara Fitzgerald, Colm Meaney ] English map-makers measure a Welsh mountain. If I had a dime for everytime I'd seen this tired old plot.... 1995.

In For ObservationEnter the Dragon
[ Bruce Lee, John Saxon, Jim Kelly ] Made right before Lee's death, this chop-socky classic puts our hero in his best possible light. Sometimes we forget just how amazing B. L. was, but this reminds us. Also features low-budget stalwart John Saxon. 1973.

In For ObservationEraser
[ Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vanessa Williams, James Caan ] Arnold attempts to erase any lasting memories of The Last Action Hero and start a new franchise, this time as a special FBI agent who protects witnesses. The highlight is one wicked scary ray gun, and Arnold fans won't be disappointed with this top-drawer action flick. 1996.

Under the KnifeEraserhead
[ John Nance, Charlotte Stewart ] David Lynch's directorial debut is one loopy trip -- but strangely entertaining at times. Bombastic foley effects, doo-doo plot, and repellant icky nonsense at every turn. If you have no pride, you're gonna love it. 1977.

In for ObservationExecutive Decision
[ Kurt Russell, Halle Berry ] Bang-up action flick about terrorism in the friendly skies. Russell is as watchable as ever, and the film has the heart to kill off Steven Seagal in the first thirty minutes. 1996.

In for ObservationExtreme Measures
[ Hugh Grant, Gene Hackman, Sara Jessica Parker ] Grant plays a nosey E. R. doc who stumbles across some naughty doin's involving homeless folks and mysterious operations. Gripping medical suspense. And if you can stop thinking about Hugh's illicit run-in with Divine Brown, you just might like it. 1996.
