Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls: [ Jim Carrey, Simon Callow ] This time the man with the talking rectum is in the jungle, waxing zany while searching for a prize white bat. Carrey is funny at times, tiresome at others. 1995.
Action Jackson: [ Carl Weathers, Craig T. Nelson, Vanity ] Apollo Creed runs after Coach while sleeping with Prince's girlfriend. 1988.
The Addams Family: [ Raul Julia, Angelica Huston ] I always preferred "The Munsters," but Raul gobbles enough scenery to liven up the cardiac-arrested plot. 1991.
Addams Family Values: [ Raul Julia, Angelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd ] Christopher Lloyd is one ugly goomer. The sequel is actually better than the original. 1993.
Adventures in Babysitting: [ Elisabeth Shue, Keith Coogan ] For your next '80's theme party, show it as a triple-bill with mid-80's suburban fairytales "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Weird Science." 1987.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eight Dimension: [ Peter Weller, Ellen Barkin, John Lithgow ] Swings between amazing cult film and cheesy syndicated TV Sci-Fi pilot. Watch for the watermelon. 1984.
The African Queen: [ Humphrey Bogart, Katherine Hepburn ] This one's an antidote for whatever ails ya. The script by which all screenplays are judged, with impeccable performances and wild locations. Directed by John Huston! 1951.
After Dark, My Sweet: [ Jason Patric, Rachel Ward ] Jason Patric tries to play foggy, while limping around after lusty Rachel Ward. 1990.
After Hours: [ Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette ] Scorsese's best comedy will teach you at least one lesson: always hold onto your cash in a cab. 1985.
Against All Odds: [ Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward, James Woods ] Rachel Ward is Sex on Wheels. The plot makes me weary, but hey, it's got my fourth cousin Alex Karras in it. 1984.
The Age of Innocence: [ Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder ] Right before watching this the first time, I ate a big Turkey dinner. Big mistake. I was asleep before the first violin concerto. 1993.
Agnes of God: [ Jane Fonda, Anne Bancroft, Meg Tilly ] Meg Tilly is good as the naive nun, accused of murdering a baby. Begs the question: why is her less-talented and twice-as-irritating sister Jennifer getting all the plum roles these days? 1985.
Air America: [ Mel Gibson, Robert Downey Jr., Nancy Travis ] Vietnam-era copter flick features lots of attitude, but lacks a convincing plot and authentic '60's feel. Watch it while you read a book and look up during action scenes. 1990.
Airplane!: [ Robert Hays, Julie Hagarty, Lloyd Bridges ] This film invented its own genre: the spoof film. (Actually, it probably owes something to MAD Magazine.) Birthed a new career for Leslie Neilson and dozens of fading dramatic actors. Watch it over and over and over -- laugh every time. 1980.
Airport: [ Dean Martin, Burt Lancaster, Jacqueline Bisset ] Watch it only so you'll get the jokes in "Airplane!" Inexplicably garnered a ton of Oscar nominations and is comically dated. 1970.
Airport '75: [ Charlton Heston, Karen Black, George Kennedy ] Okay, if you're a member of the Helen Reddy fan club, don't miss this one. Otherwise, miss this one. 1975.
Alladin: [ Voices of Robin Williams, Scott Weinger, Gilbert Gottfried ] Already a classic, this animated wonder is a blast for all ages. Actually prompted me look up the meaning of the word "genuflect." 1992.
Alice in Wonderland: [ Voices of Kathryn Beaumont, Ed Wynn, Sterling Holloway ] Disney does drugs! Kids see this movie as a nifty fantasy. Grown-ups will get something more from Lewis Carroll's hallucinogenic storyline. 1951.
Alien: [ Tom Skerritt, Sigorney Weaver, Harry Dean Stanton ] Suspenseful and claustrophobic, with monster effects that still stand up with time. Originated a dance fad known as the Vomiting Android Torso. 1979.
Alien 3: [ Sigorney Weaver, Charles S. Dutton, Charles Dance ] Third try is preachy and dull, with only some intriguing visuals to hold interest. The lice won a Golden Globe. 1992.
Alien Nation: [ James Caan, Mandy Patinkin, Terence Stamp ] Waterhead aliens land on earth, sporting leapord-skin birthmarks. Not-so-sly spin on contemporary race relations. 1988.
Aliens: [ Sigorney Weaver, Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser ] Heart-stopping thrill-ride with Ripley taking on the mother of all extraterrestrials. Not recommended for patients with malignant hypertension or other cardiac conditions. 1986.
Alive: [ Ethan Hawke, Vincent Sapno ] Cannibal soccer players on a frozen mountain. Well done, but will put you off supper. Look for John Malkovich in a miscast cameo. 1993.
All About Eve: [ Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, George Sanders ] All-time cynical classic gets riper with time. 1950's Bumpy Night features Marilyn Monroe in a small role. 1950.
All of Me: [ Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin, Victoria Tenant ] An intersection of comic genius: Carl Reiner directs Steve and Lily. Subsequent film efforts took Martin to Real Actor Town, while Reiner and Tomlin traveled toward Has-Been Land. 1984.
All That Jazz: [ Roy Scheider, Jessica Lange, Ben Vereen ] Roy Scheider plays Bob Fosse in Bob Fosse's autobiographical look at the life of Bob Fosse. Did I say it was directed by Bob Fosse? 1979.
All The President's Men: [ Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman, Jason Robards ] Redford and Hoffman play Woodward and Bernstein. Amazingly riveting -- even two decades later. Wide ties, bad hair and bellbottoms abound! 1976.
Annie Hall: [ Woody Allen, Diane Keaton ] Woody Allen's most acclaimed movie won the '77 Best Picture and a slew of other awards. Groundbreaking film set trends galore, some of which the Woodman can't seem to leave behind. Look for Jeff Goldblum in a "big break" role. 1977.
